Summer is Already Here, And it Smells Good Holidays.

Some wonder if it is doable to travel by scooter? If you have already traveled between Las vegas and san diego in the summer, you have probably seen the bicycles (Peugeot 103, etc ...) barely 80cc with backpacks and sleeping bags. So yes, it is quite possible to make a journey (200-400 km) in scooter 125cc and more. However, it is necessary to prepare well for its journey.

Start by studying the itinerary of the trip (use Google Maps for example), as well as the advice of people who often go to find out if there are gas pumps, rest areas, etc. The small tanks of our scooters often limit the autonomy to 150 km maximum.
Avoid driving at night and pause every 2 hours max, but also as soon as you feel the need. This will allow you to recover, to remain vigilant but also to relieve the scooter whose primary vocation is not the long journey.

Remember that a poorly maintained or poorly maintained scooter may leave you before you arrive at your destination. It will then be necessary to follow the adage "who wants to go away spares his mount".

  • Here is a non-exhaustive list of things to do before you leave:
  • Make sure to have an engine + transmission change in time. Otherwise, do them before leaving,
  • Properly check the condition of the tires and their pressure,
  • Check the condition of the brake pads / discs and jaws / brake drums,
  • Also check horn, flashing lights, headlights, etc ...
  • Provide an anti-puncture bomb,
  • Fasten your luggage securely (provide elastic straps very practical),
  • Provide a cloth to wipe the visor of your helmet,
  • Make sure to take all the papers (scooter and driver),
  • While recharging your phone (battery and credit), this can prove useful in case of glitches,
  • Provide a raincoat and a fluorescent vest,
  • Fill up with gas and hop, go!
