The Break-in

What is lapping? The motor and scooter generally constitute a set of mechanical parts which are manufactured separately and then assembled in the factory. The purpose of the honing is to gradually smooth and adapt the contacting surfaces of these parts so that they can work in harmony.

Example of everyday life: when a new key is used in a lock it hangs, but after a certain period of use, the key no longer hooks, it is said that the set is run-in.
How long does it last ? For scooter engines (2T or 4T), a strict break-in is recommended during the first 300 km, which means, among other things, that the engine is heated for 3 to 5 minutes, the proscription of the duo No accelerations, speed limited to 2/3 of the maximum speed, avoid the ribs ... In short, it will be necessary to avoid anything that can solicit your engine.

  • It is also advisable to change the lubricants (engine oil + gear oil) once the first 300 km passes, since they may contain residues (micro-chips) that can harm the mechanics.

  • Once this period has elapsed (ouffff !!!) you will be able to start climbing gradually, then around 1000 km, you will finally be free to exploit all the available power.

  • The running-in, it is agreed, is a real torture for the first owner who is so anxious to take full advantage of his little beast. That said, it must be seen as an evil for a good, as it guarantees the longevity of the engine as well as its performance and performance.
